| Stages of Vision Quest |
|
The Vision Quest has 3 distinct stages that define the beginning, the middle and the end of the journey. They are: Severance, the time of preparation, Threshold, the time of your Vision Quest Solo and Incorporation, the time of bringing home your vision. Severance – Severance is the beginning of the journey. It is the moment when you feel the pangs in your heart because you have made a decision and yet don’t know what awaits you. When you know deep inside that you will have to do this and you are scared. It could be right now. Severance is to sever from your old life. It is the notion that your life will never be the same; that you will sever from the life you have known up to this point and step out into the unknown edge of what is calling you. As your life focuses on the threshold of the journey ahead, your alone time in the desert, you will feel your psyche preparing itself in numerous ways. Your dreams may evoke strong and sometimes mythical images. You may feel a need to complete any unfinished business you may have with others in your life so that you can come back to your new life cleanly. You might lay awake at night in your bed wondering how you will feel when you are out in the dark of the night on the earth. You may be nerveous, scared and elated at the same time. We recommend you work with your intent during the time of severance. What is it that is calling you to do this? What are your reasons to go on this fast? What are you claiming? What are your leaving behind? What are you dying to? What are you birthing? A journal can be a great tool for this, as can be in depth conversations with friends, silent walks or meditation. The more you know about your reasons that are calling you to do this, the clearer you will be able to claim your new life. Threshold – For 3 to 4 days (depending on which trip you select) you will wander the Earth empty bellied and alone. The elements of Nature will chip away at your persona and make the true beauty of your humanness more visible than ever. This time is the sacred pause between death and birth. It is yours and words will not reach it. Incorporation – The end of the beginning of incorporation is the powerful challenge to bring your new life “home” to your people. There are many steps to that. First, you come back to your fellow fasters, then later that day to a celebration at a restaurant of the nearest little town. At the end of the trip you will come home to your friends and family. All along the way, incorporation is challenging you to bring your newness back into the world. We formally begin the process of “embodying” by our work in the group in the days following the threshold. We work with listening and mirroring the stories that came out of the threshold time. |
