Vision Quest 2007

July 21 - 29th, 277

The Summer Vision Quest for 2007 is in the White Mountains in California. At an eelvation of 8000 feet with sweeping views of the White Mountains across the Grandview plateau this site is expansive and elating. Scattered juniper pines offer some natural shade and granite rock formations invite for some natural shelter. The natual beauty of this place is exquisite.

Meeting and trip schedule: We will meet at 10:00 am on July 21 at Baker Creek Campground in Big Pine. We will be in severance/preparation meetings in Big Pine on the 21st and 22nd, leaving for our base camp in the White Mountains on the 23rd, where you will out fasting from the 24th-26th, returning to your people on the morning of the 27th. We will provide food for you when you come off your fast before returning to Big Pine. The afternoon of the 27th we will be going out for a celebration feast at a restaurant in Bishop. On the 28th we will sit together in story council and end with a council on incorporation on the 29th.

A bit of logistical information: Big Pine is located off of Hi-way 395, 15 miles south of Bishop. There are a small grocery, hardware store, laundry, showers and 4 restaurants in Big Pine. Bishop has a full array of shops and conveniences. The nearest airports are Reno, Las Vegas, Ontario and LAX. Cars can be rented at all airports but they must be returned at the airports as Big Pine or Bishop do not have rental car agencies. We do not provide housing facilities, meals or equipment. Participants are advised to come prepared to live self-sufficiently.

Accommodations in Big Pine: You can either camp at Baker Creek Campground for $10 per night or stay at one of 4 motels in Big Pine. Baker Creek is a beautiful county run campground just one mile from 395 in Big Pine. We suggest you arrive the day before we begin. Please call Angelo when you arrive in Big Pine (760-938-3333).

Weather: The weather in July is generally hot and dry but there can be thunderstorms with an occasional downpour. As our base camp is at high elevation (over 8000 feet) be prepared to bring layers for both warm and cooler weather.
